Tabitha Ruth (Turtle) Wexler is a precocious thirteen year old stock market whiz. The daughter of a podiatrist and aspiring interior designer/restaurateur, Turtle is considered a bit of an anomaly by her own family. Her older sister Angela is a blonde vision of decorum and perfection, whereas Turtle tends to be a mischievous tomboy. Mrs. Wexler delights in comparing the two and finding Turtle wanting.

Turtle is very peculiar about her ever present braid and tends to kick people in the shin for daring to touch it, whether they do so accidentally or not. Within days of moving into the luxurious Sunset Towers, most new residents sport large bruises on their shins.

Last Halloween, two neighbors dared Turtle to enter the Westing House and promised to pay her a dollar for each minute she spent inside. Turtle jumped at the chance to make enough money for a Wall Street Journal subscription. Upon entering the house, she found the dead body of millionaire Sam Westing, setting off a bizarre chain of events that named almost every resident of Sunset Towers an heir to the Westing fortune. The heirs soon embarked on a game to unmask Sam Westing’s murderer and pinpoint the rightful heir. Turtle eventually figures the whole thing out, but does not reveal the complete truth to her fellow heirs. That would mean giving up her weekly chess game with the master.
